Really, typically marketeers to map a way to conversion :( I wonder if marketeers ever read the book of Stephen Covey - 7 Habits of Effective Leadership. Where is the intrinsic value of your organization? What is the added value that will allow your organization to be considered even slightly 'social'. It's not about what you say, or how you do it, but it's about who / what you really are.

The fact that Social Media Marketing has the word 'Social' into it, means that you have to be SOCIAL!! When you're social then you're one of the people in the social crowds. And if you achieve that, then the power of mouth-to-mouth messaging applies. And that is the power if social media marketing! Get the right social crowds to interact with you and spread your message around. And then comes AIDA, but only after that!

There is just no sence in thinking of conversion if you don't really interact and do stuff that can be considered as 'social'. Add 'Get social' as a step between Engage and Your List with activities like co-creation, virals, crowdsourcing, meetups to the model.

And if you're one of the ones in the social scene, then you need to listen and personalize your offerings and the right relevant moment. This is where I disagree most - Your site - GO TO THEM!!! The web is so big nowadays ... The Y generation wants you to go to them! It's like the offline world - would WallMart be so successful if they only had an online shop? No, they have presence everywhere!

Online is like the offline world ... just more efficient. http://hhvo.wordpress.com/2009/05/19/the-social-web-is-like-the-offline-world-just-potentially-1000-more-effective/

Janet, first off, I'm glad you were able to get on here! :) Second, I completely agree it's like going back to college...and the learning curve with social media and social networking can be steep if you don't have a grasp of the fundamentals.

Keep coming back...you'll find more valuable information here!

All the best,

Hey Tony! Thanks for stopping by and I'm glad to see you gained some value from this post. Nobody in their "right mind" wants to be labeled as one of those "pesky spammers"!

Excellent info! Appreciate the diagram too, as visual images make this seemingly abstract concept more concrete. There is a lot to learn about how this whole thing works, and I was not one that wanted to learn how to do business on this very atmospheric platform. But it's okay...like going back to college several decades after you've already earned a degree combined with an equal number of years experience doing something an entirely different way.

Any help you can give us is much appreciated!
